The Work

Most of my paintings share a few common traits - no people, no artificial structures, just nature. This means the paintings have minimal dialogue. I'm not asking anything of you, but your attention - for as long as you are interested.

There is another aspect to the paintings which can be overlooked, which is while they look 'photorealistic' at a distance, a closer look reveals the scenes are made up of abstract shapes and texture, aimed at rewarding your curiosity.

These patterns aim to illustrate the pervasive energy that underlies all life and that connects all things to one another.

Detail

Over the years, I've created a visual language, developing a library of techniques that help me to convey the energy that animates the landscapes that surround us.

Music also has a huge influence on my work, as it enhances the emotional connection to my work and can be used to influence certain parts of the painting, as required.

Real Places Translated Into Paintings

Capturing the energy of a location is always an underlying goal and while I work from the photos I take, it's always thrilling to compare the difference between the two. I'm not concerned with creating an replica of the photo, but rather to illustrate it as if it were a piece of music.

The Studio

Throughout this journey, I've had a variety of 'workspaces' of varying shapes and sizes. I'm extremely fortunate to be in a period where I have a stunning studio with lots of space and more space generally means more creativity.

I look forward to sharing this part of the journey with you.
